The Climate Leadership Council released plans for a $40/ton carbon tax. Led by Janet Yellen, the proposal is endorsed by over 3,500 economists and companies.
Unlikely to make any headway with Congressional Republicans, but this is hopefully the start of a national conversation on carbon pricing. Will energy prices go up? Most likely. Can the government distribute dividends to offset negative impacts on U.S. households? Most likely. Will the right claim a carbon tax is a job killer and block without presenting an alternative? Guaranteed.
